Why comment karma costs more per point
Point for point, comment karma is priced higher than post karma. The reason is how each one is earned: post karma comes from upvotes on submitted links and images, and it accumulates quickly — a single post that does well can add hundreds. Comment karma comes from upvotes on comments written inside discussions, one at a time.
That difference is why most subreddits check comment karma specifically and ignore the total. An account showing thousands of post karma and nothing from comments will still be filtered by any community with a comment-karma requirement.
You will often see post karma dominate the total anyway, simply because there is so much more of it — an account can carry ten or twenty times more post karma than comment karma. That is arithmetic, not value. When you compare two accounts at the same price, look at the comment karma line.
